IMBY
is the Social Firm development agency for Yorkshire and the Humber, and is represented, through its Chief Executive, on the
Board of Social Firms UK. Its main objective is to create employment for people who are disadvantaged in the labour market, for health-related and
social reasons, through the development of businesses that will maximise their opportunities and cater for their needs.
IMBY was established in 1996 as
a logical progression from Reclaim, a Social Firm formed in 1992, to provide employment for adults with a learning disability
in the Sheffield area. It is a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee,
employing in excess of twenty full and part-time staff, and governed by a Board of Trustees/Directors, all of whom are disabled
people. Turnover for the last two years, which consists largely of income and expenditure associated with project grant funding,
has been around £600,000.
IMBY believes that disabled and non-disabled people should be able to live and work alongside
each other without anyone being surprised about it.
